Whole30 - Day 1

Dear Wine,

I miss you deeply already.

Sincerely,
Me

Ok so one bit of advice that I keep hearing about the Whole30 is: READ YOUR LABELS. Well if you can believe it, I almost already screwed up because of this. At Costco on Saturday (on my big shop in preparation for all this) I picked up some roasted cashews and a nice big container of pico de gallo. It wasn't until I read something on a Whole30 forum last night talking about how the Costco cashews are roasted in peanut oil (!!!) that I realized that I completely forgot to read the label for them! Most of my groceries were fruits, vegetables, and protein and only a handful of other stuff so I didn't really think about it. I assumed they would be just fine. But I guess those are out! And the damned pico de gallo has sugar in it! Gosh-darnit! Why? Anyway, just a reminder I guess that I have to be more careful.

So breakfast was of course my frittata and some black coffee. I made a decaf cup at home in the morning but I still went to my cafe this morning. On the days I do barre I have about 45 mins before the class starts -- not enough time to go all the way home. So I had another black coffee. Maybe I will try the lighter blend tomorrow. No offence sweet cafe people but I wish there were a Phil & Sebastian closer.

For snacks, I made some 'grab baggies' of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and a few pecans (which were supposed to be cashews) to put in my purse for hunger on the road. I did need one of them after my workout.

Lunch wasn't until 1:30 -  a HUGE salad with the following: mixed greens, roasted red pepper, tomatoes, 2 artichokes, 1/4 of an avocado, half a can of tuna and my homemade balsamic vinegar (from the Whole30 cookbook). I also had some olives. It was a filling lunch.
Off topic - Also made some mayo from the cookbook. It was surprisingly delicious! Yay!
Dinner tonight was *kind of* brought to you by Jamie Oliver. I found a compliant marinated chicken at Safeway brought to you by none other than Jamie Oliver -- best part was that it was a humanely raised chicken. I roasted some asparagus and put a few mixed greens, artichokes and avocado on the side and that was dinner.
Ok yes, I know I am a terrible photographer but "you get what you get, and you don't get upset" right? :)

I am probably going to have an apple and a few nuts for a bit of a snack tonight....See you tomorrow!
